Beginner's Guide in Registered Access Area

Postby Eric Lengyel » 21 Oct 2010, 07:22

The Beginner's Guide to the C4 Engine can now be purchased from your account page in the registered access area through either PayPal or Google Checkout.

If you have already purchased The Guide and the email address you used for your purchase matches the email address on your C4 license, then you should see a download link on your account page. If you used a different email address (or had Google Checkout generate an address), then you'll need to send the following information to us to get your download link activated:

* Your name.
* Your C4 license number (not your download key).
* If you paid through a PayPal account under a business name, then include that name as well.

Please send this information to guide@terathon.com. If you send it to a different address, don't expect anything to happen.

Eric,
Is this version 1 or version 2 of the guide?

Can't tell if that's fail or win. Either way, the edition is a great addition to the account page :)

Eric, hi!

Just bought the guide. It is a massive tome at >700 pages. Soild work and would be very helpful.

I recall vaguely reading on the forums that parts of the guide are no longer relevant now that C4 has evolved quite a ways since ver1 guide was written.

Some comments on this would certainly help newbies like me to prioritize what to read first.

Best Regards

That is huge. Can someone post an index, so we can see what topics it covers?

I am not using it but it seems people lovin it getting an book about C4. Eric, maybe you should (a)buse this marketingwise. I mean, I doubt that every engine out there has its own book. I am sure you'll find an agreement with the makers of the book.

Can't I buy this book directly with my credit card? Paypal and Google Checkout don't work for me. I've had problems with these two services while buying C4 Engine license.

If both Paypal AND Google reject your card, it's probably something as mundane as typing "123 Mystreet, #2" instead of "123 Mystreet, Unit 2" (or whatever is on file). It's retarded I know, but that's just how it is.

Another possibility is that the card has been flagged for "suspicious activity" - which is done for your own protection when there's a lot of purchases in a short time span being posted through different payment gateways. You'll have to contact the issuing bank to have it corrected. Honestly, you're much better off not providing your details directly to each website each time you buy something anyway..

Very good idea. For a limited time, offer the 700+ page book free with new licenses.

If we buy the 1st edition of this guide, are we granted a free copy of the revised edition when it comes out?

I think a great tutorial to accompany the book is the Pong game located in the C4 Engine Wiki. It has also been recently updated to accommodate the physics engine.

I bought the book, but having difficulties unzipping the MaterialShowroom.zip file...the error I get on my Mac running the latest update of Snow Leopard is: "Unable to unarchive "GuideMaterialShowroom.zip into \myfoldername\ (Error 1 - Operation not permitted.)" Any ideas? All of the other files unzipped just fine....Does it need to be unzipped in a specific folder name?

Thanks for the help!

I got that same error with that zip file.

Two things to note about that file:
- First, the built in Mac unzipper will not unzip it, however a 3rd party tool called Stuffit-Expander worked beautifully.

- Second, the files inside that zip aren't THAT crucial for the book. It is a 'demo' project put together to allow you to run around and experiment with the materials, this project was only compiled for windows.
